EuroShoe Boston

About Us

Founded in 2002 by Robert Elferink, EuroShoe Boston produced the highest grade of hand made custom orthopedic footwear using techniques used and preserved for centuries in combination with modern materials and techniques to achieve optimal function, comfort and fit.

With a family tradition rooted in custom shoemaking and leather tanning going as far back as the early 1600's, Robert was destined to continue the family tradition. Formally educated at the college for Custom Orthopedic Footwear Technology in the Netherlands and apprenticing for an orthopedic shoemaker while in school, he combined school work with practical experience. Traditional hand crafted shoemaking was added to the standard curriculum, teaching the value of time proven techniques.

In 1993 Robert was offered a year long internship in the Massachusetts General Hospital Podiatry department. The internship included extensive rotations in departments such as Podiatry, Pedorthics, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatric Orthopedics, the Orthotics and Prosthetics department, Radiology and the Biomotion Laboratory. Upon completion of the internship, he returned to the Netherlands, working for the family business, applying his newly acquired knowledge to custom orthopedic footwear.

Driven to bring the same level of excellence commonly found in custom orthopedic footwear in Europe, Robert returned to the United States in 1996. Here he worked with several companies involved in the manufacturing, fit and sale of custom and depth footwear as well as foot orthotics. As a representative for these companies, Robert worked with health care organizations such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, New England Rehabilitation Hospital and Youville Hospital.

Recognizing the need for high quality hand made custom orthopedic shoes for persons with severe foot deformities and a range of disabling conditions, EuroShoe was formed. All footwear is individually developed, designed and produced. Robert insists on maintaining a hands on involvement.

Additional to the custom orthopedic footwear, Robert offers his finely honed craft to the pedorthic and footwear industry. For Pedorthic clients, design and training services are offered for foot orthotics production using CAD 2D and 3D software as well as more traditional methods. The footwear industry's move towards mass customization has created a specific need for knowledge and skills to improve individual function, comfort and fit. Robert's background in these fields is unparalleled.
